Soil Survey of Fish Creek Valley Adjacent to Calgary, Alberta and Interpretation for Recreational Use

Abstract: The Fish Creek Valley has been sculpted by Cordilleran and Laurentide glaciers that retreated about 15 000 years ago. It is a steep-sided, flat-floored valley. The eastern section opens to form a wide floodplain, having a steep escarpment on the north side and more gentle slopes on the south side. The altitude of the escarpment varies, but averages 3200 to 3400 feet above sea level. The valley is drained by Fish Creek, which flows into the Bow River.
